UK winemakers in 2021 have been up against it – one of the most difficult years I have ever experienced. The cold March weather continued into April and May – only in June the sun decided to shine! We picked late to maximise any potential ripeness, finishing harvest on 6th November. Nevertheless, the grapes were free of disease that many vineyards had suffered, particularly downy mildew and botrytis, but the yield was small. The first fermentation is complete and both the Seyval Blanc and the Chardonnay/Pinot are tasting clean and fresh, classic Breaky Bottom.
On 16th November the WineGB Annual Celebration took place at the Vintners’ Hall in Upper Thames Street, London. I was privileged to receive a new trophy – ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’; WineGB members had been invited to nominate a recipient.
Very flattering, and I believe people in this world should learn to be modest; but I’m only human and confess that part of me is delighted! Thank you WineGB. Christina braved it up to London to receive the trophy on my behalf.
I have recently released the two 2016 wines – Seyval Blanc ‘Cuvée Marraine Pooks’ and the Chardonnay /Pinots ‘Cuvée Sir Andrew Davis’, both already receiving approval from customers.
We wish you all a HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
Peter & Christina
